In 2021 the native Detroiter founded Solar Flair Eyewear, an ‘emporium’ for luxury sunglasses that highlights black-owned brands in the city of Detroit. With Solar Flair Eyewear’s distinct inventory, Jalita aims to blend the concepts of luxury and contradict misconceptions about “the Culture”. During an interview with Voyage Michigan Jalita explains how, initially, she was not intrigued by designer labels and later came to appreciate the quality of affordable luxury items, “...As you flourish into adulthood, alongside your career and success, who doesn’t appreciate quality and affordability?” Solar Flair Eyewear is where quality, affordability, and sumptuosity meet.

Jalita’s entrepreneurial journey presented her with the challenge of balancing career and motherhood while finding new ways to be innovative, creative, and stand out alongside her competitors. “One of the challenges I face is having too much on my plate at times and taking on too many tasks at once …Some days are easier than others [but] I often push myself to keep going.”

Most recently, Jalita was officially appointed to the Detroit Fashion Community’s Board of Directors as the Membership Committee Co-Chair. On behalf of the DFC, Jalita recruits and welcomes prospective members into the Detroit Fashion Community, ready to assist each member while they navigate their DFC Membership.
